LIL PEEP

 “Never be ungrateful”

Shout out to everyone makin’ my beats, you helpin’ me preach.

This music’s the only thing keepin’ the peace when I’m fallin’ to pieces

Look at the sky tonight, all of the stars have a reason”

Thank You Peep

Gustav Elijah Åhr (November 1, 1996 – November 15, 2017), also known as Lil peep was a rapper, singer, and songwriter from Allentown, Pennsylvania. Lil peep specialized in emo rap similar to XXXTentacion. Peep was a star and had great influence on the people around him. Peep was one of many artists who started their careers on Soundcloud as independent artists. His career started snowballing after the release of one of his several mixtapes, Hellboy in 2016.

Lil peeps debut album released in 2017. The name of the album was Come Over When You’re Sober, Pt. 1. That was the only album he was able to release before his death in November 2017, 14 days after his 21st birthday. Even after his death Peep continued to grow releasing one of if not my favorite song, Star Shopping. A song talking about love and heartbreak as he usually did. Lil Peep also rapped about drug use often in his songs. But these topics were common in this generation of rap. After peeps death many started protesting the use and glorification of drugs as a coping mechanism.

Lil Peep continued to grow after his passing. A year after his passing Come Over When You’re Sober Pt. 2 was released which debuted at number 4 on billboard’s top 200 and was his first top 10 album. Till this day his music is still being released. I personally don’t like the idea of releasing music after an artist’s death unless the project was finished and ready to release prior to their death. It has been 3 years since Peep’s death and music has been released every year since. A documentary was also released on Netflix explaining Peep’s life and the people around him. Lil Peep was a very talented artist and it’s a shame to have lost him way too soon.

“Everything changes with time. You can’t predict where you’re gonna be next year; you have no idea, you know what I mean?”
